French Rapper Impressed ‘Voice’ Judges; Then His Social Media Past Emerged
After a weekend of controversy on social networks, the production company ITV announces the end of the participation of the young candidate, who had joined Vianney’s team in the episode broadcast this Saturday.
The Vivi, the candidate for the new season of The Voice, leaves the adventure after Internet users unearthed this weekend old racist, sexist, homophobic tweets or alluding to pedophilia. The production company ITV announced on Monday that it had decided to end its participation in the program.
In the episode that aired Saturday night, Vincent (The Vivi’s real name) caused a stir with a cover of Social Suicide from Orelsan. The 21-year-old joined Vianney’s team after receiving validation from the four members of the jury. The next day, Twitter users called for his dismissal by relaying old tweets dated 2017 and attributed to the 17-year-old artist.
“We were extremely shocked by these tweets which are contrary to the values of inclusion and tolerance advocated by The Voice, as evidenced by the diversity of talents, “writes ITV in a statement.” These messages are also contrary to the commitments made by talents when they participate in The Voice. The Vivi immediately offered a heartfelt apology on her Instagram account. But these messages remain incompatible with our values and with its participation in the program which ends today. “
Apologies on Instagram
Faced with the indignation of many Internet users, the young rapper deleted his Twitter account and posted an apology message on Instagram on Sunday:
“Since this morning, I see old tweets that come out that I wrote when I was 17 years old. As I reread these messages, I feel a sense of shame. They are schoolyard comments from an inconsistent teenager. that give me shivers. I didn’t mean a word of what I wrote. I apologize to all the people I have offended with these shameful messages. “
Many Twitter users who called for her exclusion from the program recalled the case of Mennel, a candidate for the same tele-hook in 2018. Internet users had unearthed old controversial messages on the attacks published by the young girl on social networks. The latter ended up announcing her departure from the show. The first shows of each season being pre-recorded, TF1 cut its editing services.
