Twelve days before the “real” NBA resumption,
Killian Hayes made his home-court debut in a preseason home game with Detroit against the New York Knicks. Not intimidated, the young French leader of the Pistons, seventh choice in the 2020 Draft, scored his first basket in less than three minutes of play, a double right-hand step with the fault of the New York defender.
Hayes then remained rather discreet in his 21 minutes of play. The ex-prodigy of Cholet finished with 5 points (2 of 7 on shooting, 0 of 3 on three points), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He also conceded 7 stray bullets in defense of the Knicks, winners 91-84.
Hayes’ French teammate with the Pistons, Sekou Doumbouya, 15e choice of the 2019 Draft, was aligned 11 minutes for 4 points and 4 rebounds. On the New York side, Frank Ntilikina also came off the bench for 7 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
