The Californian manufacturer presented its new generation smartphones through a new virtual conference. They will be available from September 24
After a presentation delayed by one month in 2020 due to Covid-19, Apple is returning to its fundamentals: the company took advantage of September to present its new iPhone vintage. However, its teams have opted, once again, for a virtual conference because of health restrictions. Four versions are in the spotlight: the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. We bring you the latest information about iPhone 13 price leaks and specifications
iPhone 13: a notch finally reduced
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini look like their predecessors, at least at first glance. If they keep the formats of the iPhone 12 (6.1 inches) and iPhone 12 mini (5.4 inches), they stand out with two aesthetic developments. First, a double camera module oriented diagonally. One way to assure future customers that they will be able to stand out with their purchase.
The other aesthetic development, much more significant, concerns the famous black notch. Placed at the top of the screen, it is essential to house the front photo sensor as well as the sensors dedicated to Face ID facial recognition technology. This black panel will see its size shrink by 20% this year.
The iPhone 13 benefits from the classic annual evolutions, namely a new more powerful processor (A15 Bionic chip) and a better capacity battery which should, according to the manufacturer, provide one to two hours of additional autonomy.
Other developments can be noted in the photo, thanks to a larger main sensor, therefore more efficient when it comes to producing detailed shots in low light. Stabilization is also improved.
iPhone 13 Pro: photo and video in the spotlight
Like the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro (6.1 inches) as well as the Max version (6.7 inches) see their notch reduced. But in terms of display, the most important advance concerns the refresh rate of the screen, which now climbs to 120 Hz. In other words, a refresh of up to 120 times per second.
This technical progress, already present in some of the competing Android smartphones, provides additional comfort, especially when it comes to scrolling text or applications. In order to preserve the battery, the iPhone 13 Pro is able to change this refresh rate in real time, depending on usage.
With its iPhone 13 Pro, Apple seems determined to offer the best smartphone on the market in terms of photo and video, with several evolutions. The camera module dedicated to portrait mode now offers a x3 zoom, against a x2 zoom (or x2.5 for the Max version) previously.
Like the other two cameras (wide angle and ultra wide angle), it takes advantage of an enlarged sensor, in order to improve performance in low light. Another novelty is the arrival of night mode (a long exposure intended to store as many details as possible) on the camera dedicated to portraiture. For its part, the ultra wide angle module can now be used very closely, to take “macro” shots.
The most specialized users will also be able to opt for tailor-made settings when shooting, in order to play on the colorimetry or the exposure, before the algorithms render the shot. A more advanced and precise function than a simple filter.
Apple also offers new functions in video, starting with a mode called “Cinematic”, which uses the codes of classic cinema by varying the focus from one subject to another. Secondly, the iPhone 13 Pro will offer to record a video in ProRes format, with less compression, especially used by professionals.
